5/28/25 Newsletter
One last thing before summer…
Have you ever thought about what it would be like to serve on the SFUSD Board of Education, providing leadership and oversight for the district and helping ensure all 50,000 public school students receive a high-quality, equitable education?
We’re excited to announce that applications are now open for our third cohort of SF Parent Action’s Board Bootcamp Fellowship!
Since we launched the program, three alumni have been elected to the Board of Education, and many others now serve on key commissions and advisory committees across the city. This in-depth program is for public school parents and education advocates to learn what it means, and what it takes, to serve in education leadership.
Over five evening sessions from September through December, Fellows will:
- Learn about the structure and function of SFUSD and other local education bodies
- Hear directly from current and former school board members, commissioners, and city leaders
- Build community with peers who care deeply about public education
- Explore what it means to lead with integrity, equity, and impact
Space may be limited. Fellows will be selected based on demonstrated interest in public education, a commitment to equity, and leadership potential.

*We welcome applicants from all political backgrounds and affiliations.
As we close out the school year, we’re celebrating some big wins made possible by you, our amazing parent network:
- All three of our endorsed School Board candidates won their elections: Congratulations to Commissioners Supriya Ray, Jaime Huling, and Parag Gupta! (Fun fact: all three are SF Parent Action Board Bootcamp alumni 🎓)
- Over 100 parent volunteers powered this campaign, text banking, postcard writing, and getting out the vote for our public schools.
- We showed up, and stayed connected. Throughout the year, we maintained strong relationships with political partners, coalitions, and local leaders to keep public school families at the center of city conversations.
- We launched a brand-new leadership workshop series: Pathways to Parent Leadership, with current and former BOE Commissioners. Over 50 parents participated and are now better equipped to lead in schools, committees, and beyond.
This year was about building, and winning, with values-aligned leadership, informed parents, and real community power.
Support Parent Leadership in Education
Want to get more involved but just don’t have the time right now? With your donation, you can help us provide leadership training to parents! We’re raising funds to fully support 8 to 10 parent leaders through this year’s Board Bootcamp program.
Our goal is to close our funding gap by the first session on September 24. Whether it’s a small gift or a major contribution, every dollar goes toward training the next wave of public school parent leaders. Know someone else who might want to help? Please pass it along.
