Pathways to Parent Leadership Workshop

This spring, SF Parent Action hosted three Pathways to Parent Leadership workshops to support parents in stepping into leadership across our public schools. Each workshop was designed as a starting point—for parents new to school or district-level involvement—and focused on building knowledge, confidence, and community.
Participants explored how SFUSD works, learned about real opportunities to lead, and heard directly from seasoned education leaders, including:
- Jenny Lam, Former SF Board of Education President
- Supryia Ray, SF Board of Education Commissioner
- Lisa Weissman-Ward, SF Board of Education Commissioner
Each session offered a mix of systems knowledge, practical tools, and personal stories. Parents left with:
- A clearer sense of how decisions are made in SFUSD
- Pathways to leadership at the school, district, and city level
- Realistic expectations about time, responsibility, and impact
We’ll continue offering workshops to help parents build the skills and connections needed to advocate for students and lead in their communities. Stay tuned for future opportunities to get involved!
